Mississippi University for Women v. Hogan

Ok kiddo, so there was this college called Mississippi University for Women, right? And they only let girls go there, no boys allowed! But a man named Hogan wanted to go to that college even though he was a boy. He said it wasn't fair that the college wouldn't let him go just because he was a boy.

So Hogan decided to take the college to court to see if it was ok or not. The problem was that, in the past, women were not allowed to go to a lot of colleges and universities so a special law was made that said it was ok for colleges to only let girls go, but not for colleges to only let boys go. This was done to help give women more opportunities to learn and do things they couldn't do before.

But Hogan thought that this special law was unfair to him and that he should be able to go to the girl-only college if he wanted to, just like how girls can go to boy-only colleges now.

The court that listened to the case had to decide if the special law was still a good law or not. They thought about things like if the law was fair to both boys and girls and if it was still needed today. After looking at everything, the court decided that the special law was not a good law anymore and that colleges can't just let girls go there and not let boys go, even if they are a girl-only college.

So that's how Hogan won the case and can now go to the college if he wants to. The law was changed so that now colleges can't keep out someone just because of their gender.
