Mithridate

Mithridate is a special type of medicine that was invented a long time ago by a king named Mithridates. He was worried that someone might try to poison him, so he made a special medicine to protect himself. This medicine was made up of lots of different herbs and spices, which supposedly made the king immune to poison.

Nowadays, we don't really use mithridate anymore because we have other ways of protecting ourselves from poison, like testing our food and drinks before we eat them. Plus, making mithridate was really complicated and expensive, so not many people could do it.

But the idea of mithridate has stuck around and become a legend. People sometimes use the word "mithridate" to describe something that's supposed to protect you from harm or danger. Sort of like a magic potion that keeps you safe!
