Mitigation banking

Mitigation banking is a way that people who have land can help restore and protect the environment around them. Basically, they can create an area of land that has been set aside, called a mitigation bank, where special plants and animals can be protected and cared for. When someone wants to build something on a piece of land that might harm the environment, they can pay the landowner who owns the mitigation bank. In exchange for the money, the landowner uses the mitigation bank to restore, enhance and protect the environment. This helps offset any harm that might be done to the environment from the construction. So, in a way, mitigation banking helps protect nature.
