Mixed waste (radioactive/hazardous)

Okay, so you know how we have trash that we throw away when it's no longer useful or we don't need it anymore? Well, some of the things we throw away can be dangerous to us and the environment if we don't handle them properly.

Mixed waste is when we throw away things that are both radioactive (which means they have a lot of energy that can be harmful if we're exposed to it for a long time) and hazardous (which means they can be harmful to our health if we touch or breathe them in). These things can include things like old batteries, used needles, and even some medical equipment that has been used in hospitals.

Now, because mixed waste can be very dangerous, we have to be very careful with how we handle it. When we throw it away, it usually goes to a special place called a hazardous waste facility, where people who are experts in handling dangerous things can take care of it properly. They wear special suits and use special equipment to make sure that they don't get hurt while they're handling the mixed waste.

So, in summary, mixed waste is when we throw away things that are both radioactive and hazardous, and we have to be very careful to handle it properly so that we don't get hurt and it doesn't harm the environment.
