Okay kiddo, let me explain the modern history of Ukraine to you!
You know how every person has a story? Well, every country has a story too, and Ukraine is no different.
Ukraine is a country in Europe. It used to be part of the Soviet Union, which was a big group of countries that were ruled by one government. But in 1991, the Soviet Union fell apart and Ukraine became its own independent country.
Since then, Ukraine has had some ups and downs. One really big thing that happened was in 2014. Ukraine had a president named Viktor Yanukovych, but a lot of people didn't like him because he was working with Russia instead of other countries in Europe.
So, many Ukrainians started protesting in the streets. They wanted a new president and a government that would be more independent from Russia. These protests ended up turning into a big conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
Russia didn't like that Ukraine wanted to be more independent, and they even ended up taking over a part of Ukraine called Crimea. Many people were hurt or killed, and it was a very scary time for Ukrainians.
But, even though things were tough, many Ukrainians kept fighting for their country. They elected a new president named Volodymyr Zelensky, who promised to work on making Ukraine stronger and more democratic.
And that brings us to today! Ukraine is still working through some challenges and there are still tensions with Russia. But Ukrainians are working hard to make their country the best it can be, and they have a lot of pride in their history and culture.
