ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Module file

A module file is like a box that contains instructions that can be used by a computer. When you run a program, the computer will open up the boxes and take out the instructions it needs in order to do what you've asked it to do. It's like if you want to make a cake: you need to get the right ingredients and follow the recipe, and the module file is the recipe that tells the computer what to do.
