Okay kiddo, so a long time ago in England, it was against the law for men to love other men. But some men still loved each other anyway, and they wanted to be able to hang out together and have fun without getting in trouble.
So they would secretly meet in special houses called "molly houses." These houses were usually someone's private home, and they would have secret codes and signals so only people who were invited would know where to go.
Once they got inside, the men would dress up in women's clothes and act out plays or sing songs together. They would also talk and flirt with each other, just like regular friends do.
Even though being gay was against the law, lots of people still went to molly houses because it was a safe place where they could be themselves and not worry about getting caught.
Today, we know that everyone should be able to love who they want and be themselves without being afraid. But it's important to remember the history of molly houses and the brave people who found ways to be themselves even when it was hard.
