Monastic community of Mount Athos
Mount Athos is a place where monks live in Greece. It's a really special place because only men who have become monks can live there. They dedicate their lives to God and live in a special community called a "monastery".
There are 20 Orthodox monasteries on Mount Athos, which is like a big mountain sticking out of the sea. The monks grow their own food, make their own clothes, and spend much of their day praying and reading the Bible. They also take care of the beautiful churches and buildings on Mount Athos.
Visitors aren't allowed to go to Mount Athos without special permission because the monks want to keep it a special place for people who are dedicated to God. But, even if you can’t go visit, you can learn about the monks of Mount Athos and appreciate their dedication to their faith.
