ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Monodominance

Monodominance is when one particular type of tree grows predominately in an area, like a forest. Imagine if you had many different types of toys in your toy box, but you always chose to play with one toy in particular all the time. This is kind of like how trees can grow in nature. Some areas, like a patch of forest, may have many different types of trees, but oftentimes one type of tree will grow better than others. This means that this one type of tree will become the most common tree in that area, and other types of trees will be less common or may not grow there at all. Just like how some toys in your toy box may get more use than others, some types of trees may grow better in certain areas than others. This is called monodominance, and it happens naturally in nature.
