Montado

Okay kiddo, so have you ever heard of a place called Portugal? It's a country in Europe. Well, in Portugal there is a special way of farming called Montado.

Montado is when people take care of a big area of land covered in cork trees. These trees have a special bark that can be taken off every nine years without hurting the tree. This bark is used to make things like cork boards (where you can pin things), wine stoppers, and even some shoes and purses!

But Montado isn't just about the cork trees. It's about taking care of the land and the animals that live there too. Farmers let their pigs and sheep run around and eat the acorns that the cork trees drop in the fall. This is good for the animals because they get to eat yummy food, and it's good for the land because the animals help keep it healthy by eating things that might make it sick.

So, Montado is a special way of farming in Portugal that takes care of cork trees, animals, and the land. It helps make lots of cool things and keeps the land healthy too!
