ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Motion (legal)

Motion (legal) is when a person asks a judge to make a decision about something. It is a way of expressing an opinion about a law or an official decision. For example, if someone disagrees with the results of a court case, they can file a motion with the court asking the judge to make a different decision. This is done by writing out a formal request (the motion) and submitting it to the court. The judge will then read the motion and make a decision about what to do.
