ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Motion (physics)

Motion is when an object moves from one place to another. It can move in different ways like going straight or turning around.

To explain motion, let's imagine you are sitting in a chair and you want to stand up. First, you need to push yourself up from the chair. This is called force. When you push yourself up, you are giving yourself energy that allows you to move.

Next, you start standing up and you move your legs to walk. When you move your legs, your body is going from one place to another. This is motion!

There are different things that can affect motion. For example, if you are carrying a heavy backpack or if the ground is slippery, it can make it harder for you to move.

We can also measure motion using different things like speed and distance. Speed is how fast an object is moving and distance is how far it has gone. For example, if you walk 10 feet in 5 seconds, your speed is 2 feet per second!

Overall, motion is the movement of an object from one place to another and is caused by force and energy.
