Mummy Juanita is a really old person who lived a long long long time ago in an area called the Andes Mountains, which is located in the continent of South America. She was part of a group of people called the Incas, who lived in that area.
Mummy Juanita is very special because she was preserved (kept safe) after she died. Normally, when we die, our bodies break down and turn into dust. But because of the special conditions in the Andes Mountains where Mummy Juanita died, her body was able to stay mostly preserved for hundreds and hundreds of years.
Scientists and people who study history found Mummy Juanita's body and were very excited to learn more about her and the Incas. They believe that Mummy Juanita was probably sacrificed (killed as part of a religious ritual) to the Inca gods.
By studying Mummy Juanita's body, scientists learned about the clothes and jewelry that the Incas wore, what they ate, and how they lived. Mummy Juanita is a special mummy because she helps us learn more about the past and how people lived a long time ago.
