Municipal government in Canada

Okay, so you know how we have a big government that makes rules for the whole country? Well, we also have smaller governments that make rules just for each city or town. That's called a municipal government.

In Canada, there are different levels of municipal government. The lowest one is called a "hamlet," which is like a really small town. Then there are villages, towns, and cities, which are bigger and have more people.

Each municipal government has a group of people who are elected by the citizens to run things. They are called the "municipal council." The council makes decisions about things like roads, parks, and libraries. They also make rules for things like where people can build houses, how tall buildings can be, and when stores can be open.

The mayor is the leader of the municipal council. They are like the captain of a sports team, making sure everyone works together and things run smoothly. They also represent the city or town to other levels of government, like the provincial or federal government.

So, that's what municipal government is all about. It's like a little government that makes rules for your city or town.
