Muon-catalyzed fusion

Muon-catalyzed fusion is a way to make energy with tiny particles called muons. Muons are created when cosmic rays collide with atoms in Earth's atmosphere. Muon-catalyzed fusion works when the muon attaches itself to atoms of hydrogen (the lightest element). This sticks the two hydrogen atoms together and makes them into a bigger atom called helium. This process also releases energy that can be used as electricity. In short, muon-catalyzed fusion is like combining small pieces of a jigsaw puzzle to make one bigger piece and getting energy in the process.
