Murders of Chaney, Goodman, and Schwerner

Okay, kiddo, let me tell you a sad story about the murders of Chaney, Goodman, and Schwerner.

A long time ago, when your grandparents were young, there was a place called Mississippi in the United States. At that time, some people there believed that white people were better than black people and should have more rights.

Three young men named James Chaney, Andrew Goodman, and Michael Schwerner believed in equality for everyone. They came to Mississippi to help black people register to vote, which was difficult at that time because of unfair laws and violence.

One day in June 1964, these three men were driving on a country road when some people who didn't like their ideas stopped them. These people were angry that Chaney, Goodman, and Schwerner were helping black people to vote. They beat them up and then kidnapped them.

Chaney, Goodman, and Schwerner were taken to a remote area where they were shot and killed. Their bodies were hidden for many weeks until the FBI found them. It was a very sad time for everyone who knew them or cared about civil rights.

The people who committed the murders were eventually caught and put on trial. Some were found guilty, but the punishment wasn't enough for what they had done. Their families and friends still remember them and honor their bravery in standing up for what was right.
