ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Muscular liberalism

Muscular liberalism is a type of foreign policy that tries to promote democracy in other countries by being strong, active, and forceful. It is based on the idea that countries should use military power, economic aid and diplomatic pressure to encourage countries to respect human rights, hold fair elections, support the rule of law, and ensure security and stability. Muscular liberalism means using a tough approach to promote democracy and freedom wherever possible. For example, the United States might use military force to stop an oppressive government from violating human rights in another country. Muscular liberalism also means speaking out against countries that do not respect human rights, and using economic and diplomatic pressure to try to make them change their policies.
