A mushroom cloud is a big, fluffy cloud that looks like a mushroom, and is usually white, gray, or black. It is created when an explosion throws a lot of hot air and smoke up into the sky. This can happen when an atomic or nuclear bomb is detonated. The heat and pressure of the bomb cause the air and smoke to quickly rise up into the sky and form a mushroom-shaped cloud. This makes it an easy way to tell if an atomic or nuclear bomb has been used because the mushroom cloud is so easily seen.
