ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Musical anhedonia

Well, kiddo, musical anhedonia is when someone can't feel the joy or pleasure that most people feel when they listen to music.

You know how some songs make you want to dance or sing along because they make you feel so happy? Well, for people with musical anhedonia, they may not feel anything at all when they listen to music. It's like the music doesn't do anything for them, and they might not even understand why others get so excited about it.

It's kind of like how some people might not care about certain things, like maybe you don't care about broccoli even though your friend loves it. People with musical anhedonia just don't care much about music, even if everyone else thinks it's amazing.

It's important to remember that this doesn't mean there is anything wrong with them, it's just the way their brain is wired. Some people might even have a really strong emotional reaction to something else that others might find odd, like maybe they love counting pennies or watching paint dry. Everyone is different!
