Mycorrhizae and changing climate

Okay kiddo, so you know how sometimes plants grow in the ground, right? Well, they actually need help from tiny living things called mycorrhizae. Mycorrhizae are like friendly helpers that live in the soil and attach to the roots of plants. They help the plants get more nutrients and water from the soil, so they can grow big and strong.

But sometimes the weather can change and become too hot or too dry for the plants to grow well. This is called climate change. When this happens, the mycorrhizae can also be affected. They might not be able to do their job as well because the soil has become too hot or too dry.

But there's more to it than that. You see, mycorrhizae and plants have a special relationship where they both help each other out. When the mycorrhizae help the plants grow, the plants also give back to the mycorrhizae by sharing some of the sugars they make through photosynthesis. This helps the mycorrhizae stay healthy and continue to do their job.

But if the climate is changing too much and the plants can't grow as well, then the mycorrhizae won't get enough sugar to eat. This means that the mycorrhizae won't be able to help the plants as much, and the plants might not grow as big and strong as they could.

So, if we want to keep the plants and mycorrhizae healthy, we need to take care of the climate and make sure it doesn't change too much. That way, the mycorrhizae can keep helping the plants grow big and strong, and we can continue to enjoy all the nice things that plants give us!
