ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

NGC 7318

NGC 7318 is a group of stars and galaxies that are very far away from Earth.

It's kind of like a big playground, with lots of different things going on. There are four main things in this group: a big galaxy, a smaller galaxy, and two wispy things called tidal tails.

The big galaxy is called NGC 7318A, and it's like the biggest kid on the playground. It's very bright and has lots of stars in it.

The smaller galaxy is called NGC 7318B, and it's like the little kid who tries to hang out with the big kid. It's not as bright and doesn't have as many stars, but it's still pretty cool.

The two tidal tails are like big streams of stars that come out of the big galaxy. They look like they're getting stretched out because of the gravity from the other things in the group.

All of these things are really far away from us, so we can only see them with very strong telescopes. But scientists study NGC 7318 because it helps them learn more about how galaxies form and how they change over time.
