ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

NOD-like receptor

Okay kiddo, have you ever heard of our immune system? It's like an army inside our body that fights off bad guys called pathogens that can make us sick.

The nod-like receptor, or NLR for short, is like a lookout or a guard in this army. It sits in our cells and keeps an eye out for any invaders that might try to sneak in.

When the NLR sees an invader, like a virus or bacteria, it sounds the alarm and tells the rest of the immune system to come and attack!

Not all invaders are the same though, so different NLRs are on the lookout for different types of baddies. They have special sensors that can recognize specific patterns on the invaders, like a fingerprint.

So, NLRs are like special guards inside our cells that help protect us from getting sick by detecting bad guys and calling in reinforcements to fight them off!
