Naki Sumo Crying Baby Festival

Naki Sumo, also known as the Crying Baby Festival, is a traditional Japanese event where babies are encouraged to cry. This festival has been happening for over 400 years.

During the festival, parents dress their babies in special outfits and carry them to a stage where Sumo wrestlers are waiting. The Sumo wrestlers then make funny faces and loud noises to try and make the babies cry.

The reason why this festival is celebrated is because it is thought that babies who cry a lot are healthier than those who don't. Additionally, it is believed that the crying wards off evil spirits and brings good luck.

After the babies have cried, they are blessed by a Shinto priest and given a purification ritual to help keep them safe and healthy for the coming year.

Overall, the Naki Sumo festival is an important event in Japan that celebrates the health and wellbeing of babies. It also provides a fun opportunity for families to come together and enjoy a unique cultural experience.
