ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Name of the Franks

Once upon a time, there were some people who lived in a place called Germany. These people were called the Franks. Now, the Franks weren't just one big group of people, but they were divided into smaller groups called tribes.

Each tribe had a different name, and some of these names were the Salian Franks, the Ripuarian Franks, and the Chamavi Franks. It's kind of like how you and your friends might have different names, but you all live in the same neighborhood.

The Franks were very brave and strong people. They liked to fight and conquer new lands. They were so good at fighting that they were able to defeat the Roman Empire and become rulers themselves.

But even though they were rulers, the Franks still had their own tribes and leaders. The most famous leader of the Franks was a man named Clovis. Clovis was the king of the Salian Franks, and he was very smart and powerful.

Under Clovis' rule, the Franks became even more powerful. They conquered many other tribes and expanded their kingdom. They also converted to Christianity, which is a religion that believes in Jesus Christ.

Over time, the Franks continued to grow and change. They formed new alliances and created new kingdoms. One of the most famous kingdoms of the Franks was the Kingdom of the Franks, which later became known as France.

So, to sum it all up, the Franks were a group of people who lived in Germany a long time ago. They were divided into different tribes, each with its own name. They were brave and strong, and under the leadership of people like Clovis, they conquered and ruled over many lands. They eventually formed the Kingdom of the Franks, which is now known as France.
