ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Nanopillar

Nanopillars are teeny tiny little spikes that are so small you can't see them with your eyes or even with a regular microscope. They're so small that they're measured in nanometers, which is a really tiny unit of measurement!

Scientists make nanopillars by growing them on surfaces using special tools in a lab. These tiny spikes can be made from all sorts of materials like metals and semiconductors.

One of the cool things about nanopillars is that they have a lot of surface area compared to their size. This means they can be really good at sticking to things or reacting with other molecules.

Scientists are studying nanopillars to learn more about how they can be used in things like solar panels, electronics, and even medicine. Even though you can't see them, nanopillars are a super important part of some really amazing scientific discoveries!
