ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

National Automated Clearing House

Well kiddo, have you ever heard of a piggy bank? Imagine if everyone had a piggy bank and they were trying to give each other money, but they couldn't just hand over the coins and bills, so they had to put them in envelopes and send them through the mail. That would take a really long time and it wouldn't be very safe or efficient.

So to make things easier and safer, countries created what they call a National Automated Clearing House (NACH). Think of it as a really big digital piggy bank that helps people transfer money from one bank account to another.

When someone wants to pay another person or company, they can use their own bank or a payment service. The payment service takes the money and sends it through the NACH to the recipient's bank. The banks use special computers to talk to each other and make sure the money ends up in the right place.

The NACH is like a messenger that helps people send and receive money quickly and securely. It also helps make sure that people don't spend money they don't have, since the banks check to see if there's enough money in someone's account before they let the payment go through.

Overall, the NACH helps make money transactions easier, faster, and safer for everyone involved.
