National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering

The National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering helps scientists learn more about earthquakes and how to build structures that will resist them. They look at data from past earthquakes, like how big they were and how much damage they caused, and try to understand what we can do differently to help protect people and buildings in future earthquakes. They also research different kinds of materials and designs that could help buildings better resist shaking and collapse. By understanding more about earthquakes, scientists are able to create better designs that make buildings safer when the ground starts shaking.
