So, once upon a time, a really long time ago, a man named Eliza Scidmore had an idea. He thought it would be super cool to bring cherry trees from Japan to a place called Washington D.C. in America. He thought it would make the city look really pretty and also be a symbol of friendship between Japan and America.
So, he talked to some important people in America and Japan and they thought it was a great idea too! They sent over a bunch of cherry trees and planted them in a place called the Tidal Basin in Washington D.C.
Now, every year when the cherry trees bloom, it's a really big deal in Washington D.C. They have a festival called the National Cherry Blossom Festival to celebrate it. There are lots of fun things to do like parades, concerts, and even a big fireworks show!
People from all over the world come to see the pretty cherry blossoms and have a good time. It's a really special time of year and everyone loves it.
