ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

National Liberation Day of Korea

Okay kiddo, let me explain what National Liberation Day of Korea means.

It's a special day in Korea that celebrates the country's freedom from a really mean group of people who tried to take over Korea a long time ago.

You know how sometimes when you're playing with your friends, one of your friends might try to take over the game and boss everyone around? That's kind of like what happened to Korea.

A long time ago, another country called Japan tried to take over Korea and tell them what to do. But the people in Korea didn't want that. They wanted to be able to make their own choices and be in charge of their own country.

So they fought back and eventually, they won. This special day, National Liberation Day, celebrates the victory of Korea over Japan and the freedom that the Korean people achieved.

Now, on this day, people in Korea do a lot of fun things like have parades, sing songs, and eat yummy food together. It's a really special day for the Korean people because they remember all the hard work and sacrifice that went into making their country free.
