National monument (Ireland)

Do you know what a monument is? A monument is something special that some people built a long time ago to remember something or someone important. It could be a statue or a big building or even a historic site.

Now, a national monument in Ireland is a special place that the government thinks is really important to remember because it tells us something amazing about our history. The government might decide that a really old castle or a long-standing church or ancient sites like Stone Circles are really special and they want to make sure that people can go to see them and learn about them forever.

So, they declare these special places as national monuments and put up signs to tell people that they are really important. They also make sure that the places are looked after and taken care of so they don't get damaged. They might even have people who work there to tell visitors all about the history and the story of that special place.

So, when you see a sign that says "National Monument" in Ireland, that means it’s a really special part of our history that we should all be proud of, and it's important that we take care of these places so that they will be around for a long time for everyone to learn from and enjoy.
