ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Nauru

Nauru is a very small island country located in the Pacific Ocean, which means it's surrounded by water. It used to have a lot of bird droppings called guano that was rich in certain minerals, like phosphates. These minerals are used to make things like fertilizer and can be sold to other countries.

Because Nauru had a lot of these minerals, people from other countries came to take them away. This made the people of Nauru very rich, but they didn't know how to spend their money wisely. They spent it all on things they didn't need, like expensive cars and clothes, and didn't save any for the future.

Over time, the minerals ran out, and Nauru was left with nothing. The money was gone, and the island was left polluted and destroyed. Nauru had to ask for help from other countries to survive, and it's still struggling to recover today.

In addition, because of the poor economic conditions in the country, many people suffer from poor health and struggle to get the things they need to live a good life. However, the people of Nauru are working hard to rebuild their country and create a better future for themselves and their families.
