ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Negative relative accommodation

Okay kiddo, so let's say you are looking at something up close, like a book, and then you want to look at something far away, like a bird in the sky. Your eyes need to be able to change and adjust so that you can see things clearly at different distances. Negative relative accommodation happens when your eyes have trouble adjusting to see things that are far away.

It's like if you have a toy car and you need to push it to go uphill, but it's really hard to push and it keeps rolling back down. In the same way, your eyes try to adjust to see something far away, but it's hard and they can't quite do it. This can cause things to look blurry or out of focus when you try to look at something far away.

Negative relative accommodation can happen for different reasons, like if your eyes get tired or if you have a problem with the muscles that help your eyes adjust. But don't worry, there are lots of things you can do to help your eyes work better and see things clearly, like taking breaks when you're doing activities that strain your eyes, or going to an eye doctor to get glasses or contacts that can help.
