Neonatal infection

Neonatal infection is when a tiny, newly born baby gets sick from germs or bacteria that are harmful to their body. These little babies have weak immune systems and are not strong enough to fight off infections that can make them sick.

When a mother gives birth, the baby is exposed to different bacteria and germs from the mother's birth canal, skin, and breast milk. If the mother has an infection, the baby can get sick too. Babies can also get infected from being around people who are sick or touching things that have bacteria on them.

Some signs that a baby may have a neonatal infection include a fever, low body temperature, difficulty breathing, not eating well, being fussy or lethargic, and a rash. If a baby has any of these symptoms, they need to see a doctor right away.

It is important for parents and caretakers to make sure that they are washing their hands, keeping the baby's environment clean, and making sure that anyone who interacts with the baby is healthy. The best way to prevent neonatal infections is to ensure that both the mother and the baby receive proper medical care and vaccinations.
