Nereid (moon)

Okay kiddo, today we are going to talk about something very cool called Nereid Moon! Do you know what a moon is? It’s a space object that goes around a planet. Just like how you go around the kitchen table when you are playing a game.

Now, if we talk about the Nereid moon, it's a moon that goes around the planet Neptune which is very far from Earth. Nereid moon is actually a very special moon because it's very far away from Neptune, and it goes around the planet in a very weird way.

It is like a game of catch, where Neptune is throwing the Nereid moon and then catching it back. Other moons that go around Neptune move in a straight line, but not the Nereid moon! It moves in a crooked line and sometimes the speed goes slow, and sometimes it goes fast.

Scientists think that Nereid moon might be made up of ice and rocks, just like an ice cream sundae! They studied Nereid moon from telescopes, and some of them sent special space probes to take pictures of it.
