ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Nesactium

Nesactium is a very old place where people used to live a long time ago. It's located in a country called Croatia. Think of Croatia like a big backyard with a lot of different places to visit.

Nesactium is special because it's an ancient city that was built by a group of people called the Illyrians. These people lived in Nesactium a long, long time ago, before they were conquered by the Romans. It's kind of like when you build a really cool castle with your friends but then other kids come along and take it over.

At Nesactium, the Illyrians built all kinds of important buildings like temples, houses, and walls to protect their city. They even had a special area where they would bury important people called a necropolis (that's a big word, isn't it?).

Today, Nesactium is a bit like a big puzzle that people are trying to solve. They want to learn more about how the Illyrians lived and why they built different things in their city. So, archaeologists (those are people who study old stuff) go to Nesactium to dig up things like pottery, coins, and even bones to learn more about what life was like a long time ago.

So, even though Nesactium is very old and nobody lives there now, it's still an important place that helps us learn about the past and the people who lived there.
