ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Network Rail

Okay kiddo, so imagine you are drawing a really long road on a huge piece of paper. Now, let's say that road connects many different cities and towns. People use this road to travel from one place to another using things like cars, buses, and trains. Now, imagine if there was a group of people responsible for making sure this road is safe to travel on and making sure all the different types of transportation can use it properly. That's kind of like what Network Rail does.

Network Rail is in charge of taking care of the train tracks and all the other things that trains need to work properly, like signals and stations. They make sure that the trains can travel safely and efficiently from one place to another, connecting different cities and towns just like the road in our drawing. They also make sure that the trains run on time and that people using the trains have a good experience.

Just like how it's important to make sure the road is in good shape and has no potholes or other problems, Network Rail makes sure that the train tracks are in good condition and free from anything that could cause a problem for the trains. They use special tools and equipment to check the tracks regularly to make sure everything is working well.

So, in short, Network Rail is like a team that takes care of the train tracks and makes sure everything runs smoothly for people travelling on trains.
