New historians are historians who research and study history in new and different ways. They often study history to understand why things happened the way they did, and to rethink old stories and events. They use evidence from sources such as art, documents, and old records to build their understanding of the past. They might look at things in a new way to uncover new stories or to challenge existing beliefs. New historians help us to think differently about where we have come from and where we are going.
