ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

New trial

Okay kiddo, a "new trial" is when someone who has already been to court and had a trial decides they want to have the trial all over again. They might do this for a few different reasons. Maybe they think something wasn't fair the first time, or maybe they have new evidence that they didn't have before that they want the court to consider.

Think of it like playing a game. Sometimes when you play a game, someone might think that the rules were not fair, or maybe they forgot a really important rule that would have changed the outcome of the game. They might ask everyone to start the game over and follow the rules better this time.

In a court, a new trial usually means that all the people who were involved the first time, like the judge, the lawyers, and the witnesses, will have to come back and do everything all over again. It can be a lot of work and can take a long time, but it's important to make sure that the rules are followed and that everyone gets a fair chance.
