Newsies

Newsies are boys who sell newspapers on the streets. They usually carry stacks of newspapers and shout out the headlines to grab people's attention. These boys are called "newsies" because they sell news.

The newsies were very important in the past because they were the main source of information for people who couldn't afford newspapers. They would walk around the streets shouting out the latest news to everyone, so people would know what was happening in the world.

In the old days, newspapers were sold by adults, but then some newspapers companies started hiring boys to sell their papers. These boys were usually poor and needed the money to help their families. They would wake up early in the morning to buy the newspapers, and then walk around the streets all day to sell them.

Sometimes the newsies would join together to form a union. A union is like a big team that helps each other. The newsies union would fight for better working conditions, higher wages, and the right to keep their jobs. They would go on strike if they felt they were being treated unfairly.

The story of the "Newsies" became famous thanks to a movie and a musical. It tells the story of a group of newsies who went on strike to protest against a big newspaper company. They fought for their rights and showed that even small boys can make a big difference if they stick together.
