Nitrogen

Nitrogen is a type of gas that we can't see, smell, hear, or touch. It's a very important gas that makes up almost 80% of the air we breathe! It's very important because it helps plants grow and it's used in many different things that we use every day.

Plants need nitrogen to grow big and strong. But they can't just take it from the air like we do. Instead, they have these tiny things called roots that reach down into the soil and scoop up the nitrogen. Some plants even have special things called nodules on their roots that help them get even more nitrogen!

Nitrogen is also used in many different things that we use every single day. It's used to make things like fertilizer, which helps farmers grow lots of fruits and vegetables. It's also used to make things like fireworks, so we can have fun on the Fourth of July!

One really cool thing about nitrogen is that it's used to help keep us safe. It's actually used to fill up the tires on cars and bikes! This helps the tires be stronger and last longer. So when you ride your bike or go for a car ride with your family, you can thank nitrogen for helping keep you safe!

So even though we can't see, smell, hear, or touch it, nitrogen is still really important to us in many different ways!
