The nitrogen cycle is the way nitrogen is changed and moved throughout the environment. Nitrogen is a very important element for all living things because it's part of many things we need to live like air, food, and even our bodies.
First, nitrogen from the air enters plants through their roots and leaves. Then animals eat the plants and get the nitrogen. When those animals go to the bathroom, their waste is full of the nitrogen from the plants. This nitrogen then enters the soil and helps things like plants grow.
Next, some of the nitrogen in the soil is taken in by bacteria. These bacteria then change the nitrogen into a form that other living things like plants can use. This helps the plants to continue to grow.
Finally, some animals eat the plants and the nitrogen cycle repeats itself. The nitrogen will enter the air again and the cycle continues.
This process keeps the nitrogen going around so that living things are able to get the nitrogen they need and the cycle can start all over again.
