ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Niyamas

Niyamas are ideas or rules that we should follow when we want to be better people. It's like a list of things we can do to be happier and more fulfilled in life.

There are five niyamas:

1. Saucha - This means to keep your body and mind clean, like taking a shower every day and trying not to think bad thoughts.

2. Santosha - This means to be content with what you have and not always wanting more. It's like being happy with the toys you have instead of always wanting new ones.

3. Tapas - This means to work hard and be disciplined, like practicing a musical instrument or doing homework every night.

4. Svadhyaya - This means to learn and study new things, like reading books or going to school.

5. Ishvara pranidhana - This means to believe in something bigger than yourself, like a god or the universe. It's like knowing that there's more to life than just what you can see and touch.

So when we follow the niyamas, we can be happier and more fulfilled in life, just like when we follow the rules at school or at home.
