ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Non-binary discrimination

Hi there! I'm happy to explain non-binary discrimination like you're five years old.

So, usually when people think of genders, they think of either "girl" or "boy". But some people don't feel like they quite fit into either one of those categories. They might feel like they're somewhere in between or just different altogether. People who feel this way are called "non-binary".

Unfortunately, not everyone understands or accepts non-binary people. Some people might make fun of them or not treat them well, just because they don't fit into the "girl" or "boy" box. That's called discrimination. It's like if someone didn't like you just because you liked a different flavor of ice cream than they did. It wouldn't be fair, because everyone should be able to like different things without other people making fun of them.

People who are non-binary deserve the same respect and kindness as anyone else. We should celebrate and accept everyone for who they are, no matter what gender they identify as. Does that make sense? Any other questions you might have?
