A noncentral chi-squared distribution is a type of probability distribution (a way of showing the chance of something happening) that is used to study the likelihood of something happening that has an effect on the population. It is used in statistics to help researchers understand how likely it is for things to happen and the effect it would have. Imagine a group of people that have a particular characteristic - for example, a group of people with blue eyes. The noncentral chi-squared distribution helps researchers figure out how likely it is that the group of people with blue eyes will have an effect on the population.
