ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Nordic Deep

Nordic deep is a really deep part of the ocean that is located in the northeastern part of the Atlantic Ocean. It's deeper than any other part of the Atlantic and is one of the deepest parts of the entire world's oceans.

Imagine you're swimming in a pool and you go from the shallow end to the deep end. The Nordic deep is like going from the shallow end of the pool to the VERY deep end where your feet can't touch the bottom. It's so deep that if you dropped a big rock in it, it would take about 2 hours for the rock to hit the bottom.

The water pressure down there is EXTREMELY strong because of all the weight of the water above pushing down. It's so strong that it could crush a soda can or even a submarine. That's why it's really hard for humans to go down there and explore it.

But this deep ocean is also really important because it helps circulate the nutrients and oxygen in our oceans. Animals that live in the ocean rely on it to survive. So even though it's really deep and dark down there, it's still really important for life in the ocean.
