Norfolk Wherry

Okay kiddo, let's talk about the Norfolk Wherry! Have you ever seen a big boat with lots of sails that people use to travel on rivers and seas a long time ago? The Norfolk Wherry is one of those boats, but it's a special kind that comes from a place called Norfolk, which is in England.

The Norfolk wherry has a very special design that makes it really good at moving through the water. It has a big sail that's very tall and skinny, called a "gaff rig," and it's made out of a strong material called canvas. This sail helps catch the wind and make the boat move really fast.

The boat itself is also pretty unique. It's a type of boat called a "flat-bottomed boat," which means that the bottom is flat instead of round or pointed like other boats. This makes it easier for the boat to move through shallow waters like rivers and canals. The boat is made out of a special kind of wood called "Norfolk reed," which is really strong and flexible.

Nowadays, the Norfolk Wherry isn't used as much for travel or transportation, but some people still enjoy sailing them for fun. You can even go on a ride on a Norfolk Wherry if you ever visit Norfolk!
