ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Norm field

Okay kiddo, imagine you are playing with your toys but you don't want to break them. So you decide to follow a set of rules that tells you how each toy should be played with. These rules are called norms.

Now, imagine you have a field where your toys are playing with each other. And you want to make sure that each toy, even though they may be different, is following the same set of rules. This field where all the toys are playing by the same rules is called a norm field.

In real life, a norm field is a social environment, like your school or your family, where people follow the same set of norms that they agree upon. These norms can be simple, like saying "please" and "thank you," or more complex, like following a dress code.

So, just like when you play with your toys, it's important for people to all play by the same rules so that everyone can get along and have fun together. And that's why we have norm fields!
