ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Northumbria (modern)

Northumbria is a place that people used to live a long time ago, but now it's a part of modern England. Think of it like a really big playground where lots of people used to play, but now it's just a big field that people walk through and sometimes have picnics in.

A really long time ago, a group of people called the Anglo-Saxons lived in Northumbria. They built houses, farms, and even castles! They had their own language and their own way of doing things. But then, other groups of people came and took over Northumbria, like the Vikings and the Normans. So now, Northumbria is just a part of England where lots of different people live and speak in different languages.

Even though Northumbria isn't the big playground it used to be, we can still visit the places where the Anglo-Saxons built their homes and castles. It's like going on an adventure and imagining what it was like to live back then!
