Nucleic acid metabolism

Nucleic acids are like tiny LEGO blocks that come together to build important information for our bodies. Just like how you build a LEGO tower with lots of blocks, our bodies build important information with lots of nucleic acid blocks called nucleotides.

When our bodies need to make new cells or repair damage, they use a process called nucleic acid metabolism to build these nucleotides into new nucleic acid strands. Think of it like building a new LEGO tower by adding lots of new LEGO blocks!

Our bodies first break down food into tiny pieces called molecules, and some of those molecules are nucleotides. These nucleotides then travel through our bloodstream and are picked up by cells that need to use them to build new strands of nucleic acid.

Once the cells have enough nucleotides, they use an enzyme called polymerase to link them together into long chains. It's like putting together a very long LEGO structure, but with tiny nucleic acid blocks instead.

Our bodies also have ways to break down old nucleic acid strands and reuse the nucleotides for new ones. It's like taking apart an old LEGO tower and using the blocks to build a new one.
