ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Num lock

Num lock is a button on your keyboard that you can press to turn on a special mode called "number lock." This mode lets you use the numbers, or digits, on your keyboard like a calculator.

Without num lock, your computer might think you're trying to do something else when you press those number keys. For example, if you try to type the number 5, your computer might register it as the letter "t" instead!

But with num lock turned on, you can easily type numbers without any confusion. Plus, if you're using a keyboard without a separate number pad (like the ones on laptops), num lock can turn certain letters into numbers, so you can still do math and other numerical tasks.
